Living in a small apartment requires being thoughtful about the types of appliances that you buy. Since you are dealing with a small space, every appliance that you buy needs to be functional and small enough to tuck away when not in use.
In this post, I will be discussing the five best appliances for small apartments that we use in our one-bedroom apartment. These are appliances that we use on an almost daily basis.
I will also discuss the thought process behind buying these appliances, and how we use them on a regular basis.

Best Appliances for Small Apartments
There have been multiple occasions when we have found ourselves with more appliances than we need it in our little space.
Sometimes we found ourselves with appliances that literally did the same thing. For example, having both an air fryer and a toaster oven.
Both of these appliances kind of do the same thing in terms of cooking food, reheating food, etc.
The first thing you’ll need to do is figure out the type of space you have in all of your available rooms.
For example, how much kitchen counter space do you have? Really consider the types of appliances that you would use on a regular basis in your kitchen.
The same goes for your bedroom and your living room if you have them. I know that some people live in a studio type of setting. Therefore, figuring out what appliances to have requires even more consideration.
Below are the appliances for small apartments that we own and use quite often.
As mentioned earlier, we used to own both an air fryer and a toaster oven. We got rid of our microwave over a decade ago.
After some time, we realized that having both an air fryer and toaster oven were counterintuitive.
Once our toaster oven stopped working, it was an easy decision to keep the air fryer and not buy another toaster oven.
The airfryer serves multiple purposes. We can cook food, reheat food, and crisp up frozen food especially.
We use our air fryer on an almost daily basis. I have to say it is one of the best appliances that we have invested in.
I do recommend finding an air fryer that has multiple shelves rather than just a deep basket.
I find that you can cook more food more efficiently with the type of air fryers that open and operate more like an oven.
Originally, we had an air fryer that used a basket. It was difficult to fit enough food in it and after a month or two the handle broke and we had to replace it with the air fryer that we have pictured below.
Portable Washing Machine
I have to say that a portable washing machine has been one of my favorite Appliance purchases. I can’t begin to tell you the hassle of having to share a laundry room with many other tenants in an apartment complex.
There are always broken washing machines or broken dryers in the laundry room. That would mean having to time my laundry days when I would think no one else would start doing laundry.
Otherwise, I’d be competing for the machines that were actually working. I purchased a portable washing machine about 3 weeks ago.
And it has changed the way I do laundry but in a positive way. Most portable washing machines are semi-automatic.
That means you have to do a lot more work than you would with a fully automatic washing machine. However, it is well worth it when you take into account the money that you save from doing laundry as well as not having to compete with other tenants in the complex.
I have to do smaller loads on a more frequent basis but my laundry is not piling up on me so long as I stay consistent.
I also bought a clothes drying rack and the spinner on my washing machine works so well that after hanging the clothes to dry it literally takes no longer than a day for all of the laundry to be completely dry.
I like having the convenience of doing my laundry whenever I feel like it. I no longer have to Lug laundry bags to and from the laundry room and spend almost $20 a month or more on the machines.
Our apartment does not have central air or Central Heating. In the winter months, it can get really cold in here.
Fortunately, I bought a space heater many years ago and each winter we bring it out of the closet and put it to good use.
Since the rooms in our apartment aren’t super large, this space heater warms up any space that we happen to be in.
We find it most helpful in the bedroom when we want to stay warm and it’s 45 degrees outside.
If you find yourself in the same situation of not having any type of way to heat your apartment then a space heater is worth the investment.
There are several different kinds of space heaters on the market. The model we have blows hot air the same way a fan would blow cool air.
It takes up very little space so when we no longer need it after the winter months, we can put it away in the closet.
Don’t underestimate the power of the NutriBullet. We don’t have a whole lot of space for a large blender.
The NutriBullet gets the job done when we need to blend anything. The compact size makes it easy to put away in a kitchen cabinet. We use our NutriBullet all the time for making sauces, salsas, and mixed drinks.
They are relatively inexpensive and can last for many years. It may seem like the type of appliance that you would never use, but trust me once you have one, you will be using it more often than you think.
This Appliance may sound trivial, but believe me, the electric kettle has been used more often than I would have ever imagined.
We use our electric kettle every day for preparing Coffee and Tea. we have a pour-over coffee maker and the electric kettle save having to heat water in a pot.
We also are big tea Drinkers and it is so convenient to fill the electric kettle with water, turn it on, and let it heat to the appropriate temperature to use in our beverages.
It doesn’t take up a lot of counter space so we leave it on top of the counter since we use it every single day.
Appliances can make life easier but they can also cause a lot of clutter if you are not using them.
That is why it is important to really think about the types of appliances that you would use in your apartment.
I hope that this post has enlightened you to the types of appliances that may be of benefit to you and your small living space as well.
it may help to take inventory of all the appliances in your home and really consider which ones can go and which ones can stay.
